Quality Criteria
A good decision – for sure
For more than 6 years the quality seal WELLNESS STARS has been standing for an independently tested quality in the spa and health tourism sector. It was created in 2003/2004 by the Heilbäder und Kurorte Marketing GmbH in Baden-Württemberg (HKM GmbH). The criteria are based upon intensive guest surveys and comparisons between all existing qualifying methods for the spa and health tourism in Germany.
An advisory board consisting of hotels, clinics and hot springs is continuously evaluating and adapting these criteria to the current situation.
The companies awarded with the quality seal WELLNESS STARS have to comply with very strict standards and are rated on-site at around 400 different criteria. These criteria are divided in minimum criteria (which have to be complied with) and compensating criteria (which can be compensated by additional points). The evaluation of the establishments is carried out under the perspective of the guests. The spa facilities are evaluated by their equipment, the performance of the spa treatments, the qualification of the staff and the commitment to service of each establishment. Furthermore the authenticity, competence, holistic offers, regional aspects and sustainability are very important points. Only the actual existing quality is being evaluated.
The different facilities such as amenities, size and variety of the spa treatments allow a comparability of the establishments and therefore quality segmentation can be achieved in each star category.
In regular intervals independent testers from the Technical Control Board (TÜV) Rheinland are doing mystery checks in certified establishments where the main importance lies upon checking the quality standards of the spa, health and beauty treatments. This guarantees a consistant quality in all establishments.
WELLNESS STARS has the categories hotel (partner hotel / resort hotel), hot springs and medical spa in order to facilitate the comparability of each category.
For each category specific criteria has been developed under guest perspective which makes it possible to compare distinctly each establishment. By comparing these facilities of each category a quality standard can be defined. The quality criteria exist in all facilities with 3 up to 5 stars.

Wellness Stars Partner Hotels
Hotels, awarded as WELLNESS STARS partner hotel are situated in the immediate vicinity of hot springs awarded with the WELLNESS STARS seal. Sometimes these hotels have their own spa landscape. Both facilities offer common packages.
