Medical Wellness Stars Criteria
Feel good – High Quality Standards
Quality needs certain measurement criteria. Interviews with our guests and the permanent communication with our establishments guarantee that all relevant quality criteria for Medical Wellness Stars are adhered to.
Basis for all 3-star categories are the following minimum requirements:
Nature and location
The facility is located in a prime-rated spa town or health resort which guarantees a quiet and natural location or a close proximity to a park. There are no noise disturbing factors during the day or night.
Amenities
The amenities of a medical spa facility correspond to the 3-star standard of German hotel classifications or the 3-K-star standard for clinics, sanatorium and health centers that are certified by the tourism association in Baden-Württemberg.
Staff
Only qualified employees with a vocational qualification and all necessary additional trainings are working in the medical spa area. The qualified employees have a basic medical formation and are regularly trained and visit skill enhancement courses.
Safety, technique and cleanliness
All maintenance actions inside the medical spa facility are precisely documented. An emergency bell or emergency telephones are available. Safety instructions for the use of the solarium, sauna and steam bath are published. The floor covering is slip-proofed. Emergency exits are visible and accessible. The medical spa area is controlled and if necessary cleaned, at least three times a day. A daily basic cleaning is carried out.
Service
The offered medical wellness packages can be booked daily and year-round; a daily arrival is possible. All packages include a basic medical check-up. The treatments be paid cashless. Information about the complete spa offers is available on site. Guest satisfaction surveys are carried out at least once a year.
Medical supervision
At least one doctor is available and can offer the first medical interview and examination upon arrival. A stress ECG and blood count can be made. Based on these results the guest receives an individual medical spa program. The medical treatments are surveyed by the doctor or the medical employees and a contact person is always available. At the end of the stay a medical final interview is offered. Upon request the guest receives a written documentation of all examinations with comprehensible explanations from the doctor. Furthermore the guest can receive individualized recommendations to continue at home.

3 Star Medical Wellness Stars
Minimum Criteria:
- the well-being atmosphere can be sensed everywhere
- the medical spa area is open at least 5 days a week
- the facility offers permanently a selection of vital dishes. The spa area offers at least 2 different sauna types
- at least one treatment is offered that requires an active participation of the guest.
Compensating Criteria:
- the facility implemented an environmental management system with at least 6 procedures to save water, energy or waste.
- in the sauna area are at least 15 lounge chairs
- the spa offers can be booked with short notice
- there are at least 3 different medical spa packages
- there are at least 2 different massage types and 3 different beauty treatments
- the aqua section is open for the guests daily at least 8 hours and the treatment area at least 4 hours
- there are at least 3 treatment rooms, partially with daylight and ventilation and with a washbasin
- there is an active complaints’ handling procedure

4 Star Medical Wellness Stars
Minimum Criteria:
- the overall impression of the spa facilities have to fulfill at least the requirements to obtain an average of grade 2,5. Considered are: the visual overall impression, the quality and the condition of the amenities, the coloring and the ambiance, the used material, the space allocation plan, special architectural features, the authenticity, the decoration, the fragrances and the cleanliness.
- the facility creates in all areas a comfortable well-being atmosphere
- the guests have a fix contact person with regular timings for any questions concerning medical spa
- the medical spa area is open at least 6 days a week
- psychologically trained staff is available for the guests
- the spa area offers at least 3 different sauna types
- the facility offers vital dishes round the clock
- the medical spa section can be reached directly from all guest rooms
- the clinic and sanatorium offers bigger and more comfortable rooms to their medical spa guests. There are separate dining areas for guests and patients.
Compensating Criteria:
- in the sauna area are at least 30 loungers
- there are at least 3 different types of massage, 4 different kinds of beauty treatments and one relaxation/regeneration treatment
- a pool is available
- the aqua section is open for the guests daily at least 10 hours and the treatment area at least 6 hours
- there is an exercise room where at least 4 different kinds of muscles can be trained
- special treatments and workshops for stress recovery are offered

5 Star Medical Wellness Stars
Minimum Criteria:
- the overall impression of the medical spa facilities have to fulfill at least the requirements to obtain an average of grade 1,5. Considered are: the visual overall impression, the quality and the condition of the amenities, the coloring and the ambiance, the materials used, the space allocation plan, special architectural features, the authenticity, the decoration, the fragrances and the cleanliness.
- the well-being atmosphere is continuously employed in the gastronomic offer
- the medical spa section is open 7 days a week
- vital dishes are offered round the clock. Available are organic raw food dishes, vegetarian dishes, mainly fresh, regional and seasonal fruits and vegetables that are biologically cultivated are used. Individual nourishing requirements are taken into consideration.
- the spa area offers at least 4 different sauna types
- settlement with the health insurance is possible
- at least 3 different kinds of treatments are offered that require an active participation of the guest.
Compensating Criteria:
- in the sauna area are at least 35 lounge chairs
- there are at least 4 different types of massage, 5 different kinds of beauty treatments and two relaxation/regeneration treatments
- the aqua section is open for the guests daily at least 12 hours and the treatment area at least 8 hours
- an indoor and outdoor pool is available
- the sauna has a separate and secluded outdoor area for their guests
- relaxation rooms with daylight are available inside and outside the building
- there is an exercise room where at least 4 different kinds of muscles can be trained and one aerobic room
- a qualified instructor is always available to explain the use of the exercise machines and to suggest individual training programs.
